Connect to solve Disconnect
We live in a very interesting world. Because of technological advances, we no longer need to manually put forth much of an effort. Machines cook our food and wash our clothes. Some types of lawnmowers no longer need humans to push them to cut the grass. Cars take us where we want to go, and sometimes, we don't even need to leave them to pick up our groceries, as they can be ordered online, and delivered to our cars and our homes.
With this advancement, however, there is an increasing disconnect with humans. It's harder to feel seen and heard, when the tones of our voices don't come through our text messages. We don't pick up body language or other non-verbal forms of communication.
Yet we can reach the farthest corners of the earth with anyone who has internet access. What once could only be shared with those in a community, can be shared with the world.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is one of those amazing truths that can be shared throughout the world through technology.
Before I started my studies through BYU Pathway, I was hesitant to use social media to connect with others on a personal level. I especially did not feel like sharing my testimony of my beliefs to such a broad audience. It wasn't until I started sharing favorite quotes, however, that I began to realize that people were reading what I was sharing, and that content inspired them.
So, I decided to share insights I had gleaned from my daily scripture study on my social media platform. Sometimes, my posts get some likes, some get some comments, and some may only be scrolled over on a viewer's feed.
But the fact that I can share my testimony with those around the world, is meaningful and helpful. I am sharing messages that may be the only contact someone could have with the church in their world. That's a a remarkable missionary tool.
I know that our Heavenly Father inspires all people to do good things. I see social media has a phenomenal tool to share the truths of the gospel and other information with the world.
It is because of this blog that I can share my thoughts, insights and other opinions, with people who seek out messages like mine. Social media gives an audience to even the smallest of voices, in the most obscure places.
Perhaps this generation is to connect to social media to solve their disconnection from humanity. It is online that we can open up and share our testimonies with others. What a powerful tool God allows us to use to gather His children.
